It's starry-clear at 5:30, however ...........

.......... more rain is on the way!

WKTV predicts that: "Some sprinkles are possible this morning. Wet weather is expected later on today.

A large and strong storm system will drop in from the northwest today. Cooler weather is expected this afternoon, with highs only in the upper 50s, along with a steady rain. Rain is expected to develop around noon and last through the afternoon. Rain turns to rain showers this evening and tonight, with overnight lows in the 40s.

Winds shift into the northwest over the next several days, drawing in chilly air. This is a perfect set up for lake effect rain on Wednesday and Thursday. Expect occasional rain showers, clouds, and chilly temperatures. Temperatures will struggle to get out of the 40s!

Slow improvements are expected as we head closer to the weekend. Temperatures will warm back into the 60s over the weekend, but some wet weather is expected."

After a damp, dull morning, the sky turned bright blue for a while yesterday afternoon. Then, without much warning, a "front" rolled through; by 4:30 the sky was as dark as it cold get and suddenly it was hailing! I was in my big barn when it began, beneath a metal roof, and although brief, it was the loudest storm I'd ever heard!

Before the skies opened ..............

On Madison Street.

At Terry Meadows.

On Shanley Road.

One good thing about rain, this time of year:

PUFFBALLS!

This one was found - unfortunately - in New Zealand, but they do grow this large in southern Oneida County, too!

IN THE MAIL

This letter and series of photographs from MaryBeth VanDenbergh.

TUNNEL TO TOWER RACE

"The race ( and I use that term lightly) was very emotional. The beginning was in the tunnel 1.7 miles and very warm. As they came out of the tunnel HUNDREDS of firefighters were lined up along the road either with American flags or banners with the 343 fallen firefighters photo's on them. These firefighters were thanking the runners and giving them high fives! As they came towards the finish line they had to walk, there were so many runners! It was raining but not cold. There was an after party of sorts and at one point all the firemen that had the banners and flags all marched in to bagpipes. WOW! We will do it again and encourage others to join.

This race is in memory of the 343 fallen firefighters that died in the 9.11.01 terror attack. Firefighters came from all 50 states and from around the world to show support. We saw firemen form London, Ireland, Canada and Romania. The one photo is of a group from Floyd that ran. Hundreds of Cadets from West Point ran this year, also many military units.

Bob and our daughter Sarah participated.

"The race is in memory of Stephen Siller, beloved husband and father of five, who was a firefighter from Squad 1, Park Slope Brooklyn. On 9/11, he was off-duty, and on his way to golf with his 3 older brothers.
When Stephen heard on his scanner that the World Trade Center had been hit, he turned his vehicle around and headed towards the site. When his truck was prohibited from entering the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, typically of him, he raced on foot towards the site with his gear strapped to his back.
He was last seen alive on West and Liberty Streets where he, more than likely, went looking for his Squad, all of whom perished. The Tunnel to Towers Run retraces Stephen's footsteps on that fateful day.
In running along his path, we honor the memory of all the Firefighters, Police, and EMS workers who performed their duty that day. In running this race, we are reclaiming still another part of the city for all our heroes and for all of those who died on 9/11.
They will never be forgotten!"

(Thank you, MaryBeth!)
