WKTV's meteorologist predicts that; "It will be a chilly day today, with highs only near 50. The breeze will be with us during the morning and afternoon, coming in from the west/northwest around 10-15mph with gusts over 25mph.

Winds shift into the northwest today as a weak disturbance passes by. This is a good setup for lake effect rain showers. A few lake effect rain showers will develop during the day, but will be mainly confined to the lakes. Overnight, the lake bands will intensify. With a northwesterly wind, most of the rain showers will be south and west of the city of Utica in areas like Western Oneida, Madison, and Otsego County. Temperatures tonight due to the clouds are expected to drop to near 40.

Still chilly tomorrow, with some lake effect rain showers. Highs again only near 50. Slow improvements as we head into Friday morning.

Our next storm system will fast approach the area for the weekend. Rain is expected to develop on Friday as a warm front passes through. An area of low pressure will bring a cold front for Saturday, along with more rain and perhaps some thunder. Drier weather for Sunday."

In place of a few mediocre pictures that I took in the rain yesterday, here - with permission - are two beauties from Jody Hildreth's collection of photographs taken in the vicinity of Keene Valley, last Sunday.

(Thank you, Jody!)

Speaking of the "North Country," in my morning mail I found a letter re: a new - and upsetting - state of affairs at the tiny community of Beaver River on the Stillwater Reservoir: along with new rules and regulations governing the parking of vehicles and boat trailers at the public parking lot and the new requirement that vehicles at Beaver River (where there are six miles of dirt road going only from boat landings to camps) must be registered, insured, etc., etc., the Thompsons may no longer be able to operate their barge, party barge or water taxi becaue it's "illegal" to make a profit from public waterways .....................

Various "GOOGLINGS" and Emails on that subject have taken up the better part of two hours!

There may be an "uprising" and if there is, I'll be there!
