It's going to be a nice day!

Cooler -- 44 degrees --- but, after all, it IS Fall!

From The Weather Channel

From WKTV: "Good morning Central New York! A cooler but nice finish to the work week.

***FREEZE WARNINGS IN EFFECT FOR THE ADIRONDACKS TONIGHT***

A much cooler start to the day across Central New York. Starting out about 15 degrees cooler this morning compared to previous mornings, with temperatures in the 40s. Some patchy fog in spots near bodies of water is expected.
Sunshine will be in abundance today.. Expecting wall to wall sunshine this afternoon with highs in the low to mid 60s. Breezy at times, with a northeast wind between 5-15mph. The winds turn calm tonight and temperatures fall quickly. Most areas in the Mohawk Valley stay frost free tonight, but a few outlying cooler areas may see some patchy frost by daybreak. You should bring in your sensitive plants or cover them tonight as a precaution. Overnight lows in the upper 30s.

Sunshine to start out Saturday. Despite the chilly start, high temperatures are expected to climb into the mid 60s. Our next storm system approaches from the west, bringing clouds by Saturday afternoon. The rain is expected to hold off until after dark.
The bulk of the rain falls Saturday night, with only a chance of showers on Sunday. Most of Sunday is expected to be dry, but skies will average mostly cloudy."

WKTV's Foliage Report (Updated Thursday Sept 24th)

"The place to head this weekend for fall colors is the Adirondacks. The leaf change will approach near peak conditions (80-90% color) in the heart of the Adirondacks. A drive along route 28 is recommended. For peak conditions, head to high peaks region of the Adirondacks."

I received word that The Hildreth Hikers will be climbing "Giant," in the High Peaks, this weekend ----- perfect timing! (Wouldn't it be great if we could have a photo of them sitting on this rock at the summit????)

Giant Mtn. is the 12th highest Adirondack mountain at 4627'.
The ascent is 3050' ; trail distance 6 miles and average hike time 7.5 hours.

Another nice view - this one of the new Bandstand from Sanger Avenue.
It looks small, doesn't it?

Looks large, doesn't it?

I came upon a grand scene on West Bacon Street, yesterday morning: it appeared that Bill O'Dowd was splitting wood under the supervision of his son, Michael, and their friend, Jim Hart. (But after I'd returned to my car and turned around the true action was revealed -- it was Michael who was chopping while the senior supervisors looked on!)

On Conger Avenue.

Woodbine, or American Ivy, hanging from trees on the Buell Avenue hill.

From this vine comes the name "Ivy League Colleges" whose brick buildings are famously covered with ivy: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Yale.

On California Road.

At the Moshers' on Barker Road.
