It's Garbage Day.
From WKTV: "Good morning Central New York! Yesterday's humid weather will be a thing of the past today, with drier, slightly cooler weather by the afternoon.
Yet another mild start to the day (that makes three in a row). Starting out mainly dry, with an isolated sprinkle in spots. A jacket is not needed today.
Sunshine will develop this afternoon as drier, cooler air works in from the north. Despite starting out in the 60s, highs this afternoon will only gain about 10 degrees, with highs in the low 70s. A nice and pleasant afternoon with a bit of a breeze.
High pressure builds in from the northwest tonight and tomorrow. Skies become clear tonight, with calm winds and overnight lows in the mid 40s.
Sunshine and cooler weather for Friday. Highs in the mid 60s. Clear skies and light winds Friday night will bring us down into the upper 30s in many spots by Saturday morning. Frost is possible, but looks to be limited to the Adirondacks and coldest spots in the area that already had a frost last weekend.
Saturday looks nice too, with sunshine and highs in the upper 60s. Some clouds will roll in Saturday afternoon ahead of our next storm system. This will give us some rain Saturday night into Sunday morning.
A larger storm may impact our weather for early next week, bringing with it cool, wet weather."

Dan Maine phoned me a few days ago to tell me that he and his crew were in the process of shingling the roof of the historic Hop House at "Parkwood" Farm ----- the Gordon residence --- on Sanger Hill Road, using real cedar shingles:

Well: I was partly right. Although the weather turned out to be much better than I'd thought it would, yesterday, only two of our regular Farmers' Market vendors showed up --- John and Edith Reile! I stopped (Edith's chocolate chip cookies were calling to me!) late in the afternoon and they chuckled over their day. They'd had quite a few customers and Edith said that it really had been a lovely day to spend sitting in the Park!

......... something you don't see every day.
The structure, built probably in the 1850's, underwent partial restoration in 2005. The property had been owned, first, by (Stanton) Parks, then Charles Terry, then his son-in-law Senator Coggeshall, followed by Hilda Ridings Barton's father and later Dr. George Riley.

......... and this closeup of a Mandevilla blossom.
You can see more samples of this bright, tropical vine in Pat's gardens on Babbott Avenue South where they, and the nasturtiums on the fence are at their very best.

From Nancy Ayala, our all-important "chimer!"
"Thru the Masons I was able to meet with a Joe Conners, chime historian of Allchimes on Sunday for an interesting afternoon with the bells. He was especially happy to see the "tolling" bell as the maker is not found too often. He also brought with him a lady who gave me a sheet a friend made for her with numerous set ups in different keys for 9 bells!
Now I just have to find the time!"
Making a brief stop in Waterville, Tuesday afternoon, paying visits on a few old friends, the Rev. Byron Stuhlman. He and Hester were en route from their home in Maine to a Shakespeare Festival in Canada. I didn't see him, but am glad to know that they are both hale, hearty and happily enjoying their "retirement."
