It's a beautiful Fall Morning!

45.3 degrees F. / 7.4 degrees C. and clear.

It's Garbage Day.

Tomorrow is METALS

From WKTV: "Seasonably cool this morning, with temperatures starting out in the 30s and 40s. Temperatures will quickly rise with the rising sun.

Sunshine continues today, with another nice day expected. The difference between today and yesterday will be the wind. The wind today will be out of the west but by tomorrow, the wind is going to shift to the southwest, bringing in very mild air into Central NY. It is going to feel more like middle of September instead of the beginning of November. Temperatures will reach the mid to upper 60s with some areas getting close to 70 degrees! Get out and enjoy the weather while it lasts!

A few clouds come back into the picture tonight and Tuesday. A cold front will pass through the area on Tuesday. This front is moisture starved, and we don't expect more than perhaps a sprinkle with its passage.

We will be keeping an eye on Hurricane Ida, which is expected to make landfall along the Gulf of Mexico Monday night into Tuesday. Once it makes landfall, the big question will be where the low pressure goes from there. As of right now, it looks to pass the region well to south, meaning a dry and relatively quiet week."

News from the Fifth Grade Challenge:

No details on actual scores, but Our Girl Aubrey won a new laptop for being on the show plus a special lunch for her classroom at school for having more people show up and vote for her than anyone else and a classroom visit from the local TV station which will air locally during Good Morning America.

Yeah Aubrey!!!

That looks different! With all of the brick- and stonework on the towers on St. Bernard's Catholic Churh repaired, the protective wooden "awning" over the front steps has been removed!

New colors on the steps and entryway at the St. John Apartments!

Mr. St. John came to Waterville in the early 1870s, purchasing a leatherworks and livery previously owned by a Mr. Lombard. Although this was the St. John residence, the livery - which must have been just east of the current Woodhouse residence - served clientele of the Park Hotel.

There have been some wonderful sunrises and sunsets, lately!

The Bandstand at dusk.

Is it time, already? Tom Morgan thinks so!

COMING SOON!

"What do you do when you have three geriatric sisters as patients and all they want to do is sit at home and talk to one another—all at the same time? You move another person in with them. At least, that's what Doc Lomax does when he has a new nurse needing a place to live—a nurse with a secret, that is. The hard part is convincing the sisters they need a roomer. In no time, however, Nurse Jean has them planning parties, pulling Halloween pranks and wearing jogging suits while they race each other to the corner. But when the nephew shows up with a plan to sell the family house, things seem to get complicated again, especially with Christmas just around the corner. This heartwarming piece is loaded with wisecracks and one-liners that keep the laughter flowing. "

IN THE MAIL

from Tammy Graves:

Dairy Does D.C. in December
==Planning Phase 2==

When: Monday, November 9, 2009 at Noon EST

How: Conference Call # 1 (605) 715-4900 code 466980

Conference Call Agenda:
- Discuss reaction/interest gathered regarding Washington DC trip for December 2. - Discuss other options for nationwide, unified action. For example, simultaneous meeting to Congressmen and Senators district offices.
Summary of Reaction/Interest to date:
*Most response is from New York farmers. Is no one else outside of the Northeast engaged or do they not see a trip to DC being feasible for them?
*states not as engaged I guess outside the Northeast.
- Brainstorm our messages.
*What do you think about this draft message below?...
“The milk pricing system is broken. Washington D.C. must fix it to maintain food security. Without attention, our food safety will be threatened by methodology sourcing our food needs through food imports from the lowest cost producer, whatever country that may be. Is that what Americans want and accept?"

Below are highlights of responses we wanted to share with you:
==========================
"I would go too...keep me updated!"
==========================
“What are the details about the rally on the 2nd for dairy? I'm tempted to come, but I need more information on what is planned. Also are there buses coming from the northeast? Is anyone coordinating? Let me know.”
==========================
"I would go!"
==========================
“We are interested in joining in the rally on DC on December 2, 2009. If you are interested in joining on the trip please contact and let him know that you would like to go. We also need consumers to go along.”
==========================
“I would love to send 60 of our College Dairy Science students to Washington on Dec 2. Is there any way this can happen? The logisitics we're real clear to me, so I want to know if this is even a possibility. Cost of trip? Departure time? Mode of transportation. Call me if you have information.”
==========================
“I am interested in meeting in DC.”
==========================
“At least one person from each dairy and related business should attend. Hope to see you all there.”

FOR THE RECORD

I received a telephone call from Miss Helen Voll on Friday Morning giving me the sad news that Margaret Fraser, a long-time friend to many here in Waterville, had passed away. She had been near her daughter, Mary, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for several years.

I had some wonderful times with Margaret and also her husband, Doug, before his death, and I will always think of them both with enormous admiration and affection.

I believe that a memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in the Spring.

In the meantime, although I don't have Mary's mailing address, I do have her Email address and will be glad to forward your condolences to her.

Have a nice Day, Everyone!
