Countdown to Cruise-in!

LOOKIN' GOOD!

GARBAGE DAY!

It's 50 degrees and there's fog in the Hollow.

From WKTV, this morning: "Some patchy fog this morning in areas like Chenagno and Madison County. Most of us will start out clear with sunshine this morning. Once again on the cool side this morning, with temperatures in the upper 40s to start out the day.

Sunshine will continue throughout the morning and early afternoon. Temperatures expected to warm into the mid 70s by the afternoon. Late this afternoon and early this evening, some instability clouds will develop ahead of a weak cold front dropping in from Canada. This cold front will arrive tonight giving us clouds and perhaps a sprinkle late tonight and early tomorrow morning. Overnight lows in the mid 50s.

Some clouds Tuesday morning, followed by a return to sunshine. As cooler weather draws in from Canada, temperatuers will average about 5 degrees cooler than today, with highs near 70. Dry but cool weather continues for Wednesday before rain returns by Thursday night and into Friday."

"Waterville Rolls over Rome Catholic" - from WKTV.

According to Kristin Strohmeyer, the WCS Boys' Varsity Soccer team beat McGraw-Hill in a "nail biter" on Thursday evening!!

The Waterville Historical Society's Annual Harvest Dinner took place, yesterday.

After dinner, everyone enjoyed an illustrated talk by Ms. Ellie Collins, shown here with WHS Vice-president Deborah Conway.

Ms. Collins is a well-known authority on the history of the Underground
Railway in Oneida County and surrounding areas.

If you were not at the meeting, you can explore some of this history, yourself, at this website.

The subject had been discussed at the "old-timers' story swap," on Friday morning, and mention was made that, according to hearsay - with no real proof of historic accuracy - local homes that might have been on the "Freedom Trail" were the Tower Homestead, the former Huntington Agency building on East Main Street (across from the new home of the Historical Society), as well as the home of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Plourde.

The one residence where oral history supports the reason for there being a "hidden room," is the Bigelow Homestead on Stafford Avenue - now the home of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Barnes - a family story of which Bigelow descendants are very proud!

Flowers, all around the village, have either given up completely or are thriving in this late-Summer weather. Fr. Tom Servatius' front porch garden may yet take down the railings!

In other spots, there are definite signs of Fall: here, at the Macintosh home in "Dicksville," the hydrangea has it's Autumn blush.

In Sangerfield.

Decorations are appearing: Marilyn has been at work at Dan Maine's woodworking shop on Madison Street.

At Joan Albert's on East Bacon Street.

A favorite Madison Street doorway!

Watch for patching/paving to begin on Berrill Avenue, Elmwood and, also, Osborn Avenue.

FAVORITE PHOTOS

No: not the Blues Brothers! Two suave and handsome gentlemen who were at the Historical Society Dinner agreed to pose for this photograph. I'm sending it right off to "GQ" with hopes of landing a "cover!"
