The WKTV forecast: "A weak warm front is crossing the area this morning. Clouds and perhaps a very brief shower this morning. A few peaks of sunshine along with clouds are expected this afternoon. Temperatures this afternoon reach the low to mid 50's.

A weak cold front will stall over the area tonight. Clouds and perhaps a sprinkle is possible. Overnight lows in the mid to upper 40s.

Another storm system passes north on Wednesday, with temperatures spiking into the low 60s. The chance for showers on Wednesday and Thursday, but most of both days are expected to be dry.

Unsettled and cooler weather to return next weekend."

A few weeks ago I called this W. Bacon Street house and the one on Stafford Avenue that Honelore Godecker is painting "painted ladies" and at least one blog reader took offense! Although there are other kinds of "painted ladies," I referred to an architectural use of color!

There's a wonderful combination of several colors on the Falk residence .....

........... and three or four on the Mandeville residence, both on Putnam Street.



On the other hand, some Victorian "gingerbread" looks nice painted just plain white!

Something new for Waterville!

A ZOMBIE WALK!

If you've never heard of a "Zombie Walk," don't admit it!
You might read this article, recently published in the O-D:

'The Walking Dead Bring Some Life to Downtown Utica"

and this historical material from Wikipedia.

Although almost too new to be called a "custom," Zombie Walks are becoming annual events in many cities and on college campuses. Usually connected to a charitable cause - in this case, a food drive to benefit the Waterville Area Food Pantry - Walks always involve gory makeup and organized, controlled "shambles" (parades/routes) that end at "after parties" where refreshments are enjoyed, prizes are awarded and "the walking dead" actually show signs of life!

Organizer Frank Carentz just sent me the following information:

"Registration and food drop off will be in the parking lot behind the Family Medical Building across from Stinkers from 4-5. We will then proceed East on Main Street and then North on Stafford Avenue to E. Bacon street; cross to West Bacon and proceed back along the opposite side of Stafford and Main Street to Stinkers."

There will be the Ghost Seekers of CNY at the Village Municipal building at 1:00. And Collin Major offering professional make-up from 2-4 for $10.00 per face.

After the walk we will have the after party at Stinkers, with a couple of fun contests and some prizes for participants. Those who dress and donate will receive a stamp and $1.00 off pitchers at Stinkers as well. Live music will be provided by The Ward, a local cover band led by Watervillian Adam Nipe. it's sure to be a great time and we'd like to encourage everyone to participate in the walk to benefit the Waterville Area Food Pantry before the upcoming holidays. And if they don't want to walk or dress up, they can still bring food down from 4-5, or come on out and watch the shambling hordes. Who better to raise hunger awareness than the ever hungry zombie?"

(My husband and I went to Egypt about twenty years ago and I remember the same sort of view landing in Cairo: the city faded to sand to endless deep blue sky. The sunshine was always super-bright because there are were no clouds! One day we saw a very small one: a rare occurrence, there!)
